Below is information about tryouts for the Machine Pitch and Minors baseball and softball divisions this season. Please email [email protected] if you have any questions.
Tryout dates/times:
Minors - Monday January 27 beginning at 5:30 PM. Baseball - Pflughaupt Field at Hohlt Park; Softball - Schwartz Field at Hohlt Park.
Machine Pitch - Wednesday, January 29 beginning at 5:30 PM. Baseball - Pflughaupt field and Boehm Field. Softball - Schwartz Field at Hohlt Park.
There will be a table to check in at tryouts. Please go here first and get your player's number. They will tell you where to go. If you need to stretch/warm up, please do that before you arrive at tryouts.
What do you need to bring?
You should bring any baseball/softball equipment that you already have (glove, cleats, bat, helmet). At a minimum, your child will need a glove before the first practice of the season. We will have helmets and bats you may use at the tryout. If you played last year and can wear your jersey from last season, or another shirt that has the player's last name on it, that would also be helpful (but is not required).
What will the players do?
Players will go onto the field in groups (between 10-15 players per group). There will be 3 parts to the tryout:
1) Field 3 ground balls at short stop and throw to first base.
2) Field 3 balls in the outfield and throw to second base.
3) Each player will get 3 pitches to hit off of the machine, and will run to first base after the 3rd pitch.
After they finish all 3 parts, they are free to leave.
How long will this take?
It is estimated that each group will take about 20-30 minutes.
What if I cannot be there at 5:30 PM?
You do not need to be there at exactly 5:30. We will likely have groups going until about 7:30 PM. The deadline to check in for the last group is 7:15.
What if my child is attending the Spring Training Camp at Blinn?
If you are attending the Spring Training Camp at Blinn on Monday - do not worry about leaving the camp early to attend tryouts at 5:30. Take your time getting to the tryout after camp ends.
What if I cannot attend the tryout?
If for any reason you cannot attend, your child will still be drafted on a team. This tryout is just a way for coaches who are not familiar with all of the players to evaluate the players in an effort to even the talent level across teams.
When will I hear from my coach?
Drafts will be held the week of February 3. You should be contacted by your coach no later than February 9. Practices will begin February 10. Please do not ask email/call us to find out who your coach is before February 9.
